Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

Events

When do you meet?

We meet on the last Saturday of the month, at 1pm.

Where do you meet?

We usually meet at The Basement on Lever Street. However, due to The Basement being closed following a fire at a neighbouring building, our Saturday meetings are a moveable feast at the moment. Please check the "events" link for up-to-date information.

Membership

Are children welcome?

Yes, very much so. We always choose child friendly venues for our regular Saturday afternoon meetings. It may be that some evening events are not child friendly but our main meetings always are.

Can I bring my pet?

Yes you can if we go on a walk or outside activity. Unfortunately, the bars and venues we go to most likely will not allow animals in for health and safety reasons (apart from guide dogs / hearing dogs)

Do I have to be a vegan to join the group?

No, but we would like you to be at least a vegetarian and to be an aspiring vegan! Please also respect our views by only consuming vegan food at our meetings. Once you have come along and met us, we hope you will be convinced that the vegan diet and lifestyle is for you.

Do I have to eat vegan food at the meeting?

Yes you do! We work hard to find vegan friendly venues for our meetings and also strive for an atmosphere where vegans feel comfortable. Please respect this by only consuming vegan food at our meetings.

Does it cost anything to join?

No, it is free to join but we do meet at bars and cafes that deserve your support so please buy at least a beverage.

The Vegan Society

Any Vegan Society local contacts involved in the group?

Sarah Richards, co-moderator of the group is also a Vegan Society Local Contact, as is Cathy Bryant, a member of the group. Linda Sever, co-moderator of the group is a Vegan Society Group Contact. We don't know everything but we can try and find out so please feel free to ask us!

Do I have to be a member of The Vegan Society as well?

No you don't! A lot of our members probably are members of the Vegan Society, PETA, Animal Aid or Viva! but we are independent of any organisation.
